Schankbier ist eine in Deutschland steuerlich definierte Bierkategorie mit einem Stammwürzegehalt von etwa 7 bis 11 Prozent. Es gehört damit zu den leichteren Bieren und weist in der Regel einen Alkoholgehalt zwischen etwa 2,8 und 4,4 Prozent auf. Aufgrund seines vergleichsweise geringen Alkoholgehalts wird Schankbier häufig auch als Grundlage für alkoholreduzierte oder alkoholfreie Biere genutzt. Geschmacklich ist es meist leicht, mild und gut trinkbar.
